High Voltage Upgrade – Newcastle University
Dome is providing Project Management, Cost Management and additionally client internal Project Management services to Newcastle University for the Health Innovation Neighbourhood (HIN) HV Upgrade project.
Newcastle University buildings on the HIN site are currently fed from the High Voltage (HV) circuits which were established for the old Newcastle General Hospital. Vandalism and theft at the General Hospital site resulted in damage to one of the substations and power outages for the University buildings.
As a result of this and as part of the wider site masterplan, a new HV connection is required to increase resilience and allow for eventual decommissioning of the NHS HV network on the site.
The new connection will require a new substation, HV equipment, LV equipment and transformers.
Dome is acting as Estates Project Manager in addition to the roles of project manager, cost manager and contract administrator and are working closely with RPS who have been appointed as HV designer.
Our role requires close liaison with various University Estates representatives, together with both internal and external reporting on progress, budget and risk management.
