Artificial Grass Pitch & Car Park project – New College Durham
Dome is providing Project Management and Cost Management services to New College Durham for the installation of an artificial grass pitch and construction of a new car park.
New College Durham currently relies on grass pitches which deteriorate over the winter months, when usage is high and rainfall peaks. To improve the playing conditions and increase year-round availability a project to replace the existing pitch with an artificial grass pitch was initiated.
Constrained by available space, topography and proximity to neighbours, the pitch is being installed in the location of an existing car park. This has resulted in the need for a new car park to be built on the current grass pitch location, to maintain existing levels of provision.
Construction works are ongoing with the realigned car park scheduled to be operational in early 2025 and the artificial grass pitch complete before Summer 2025.
Dome is providing the full suite of project management and cost management services to New College Durham including design team management, risk management, programme management, procurement advice, main contractor tender and contract administration.
Careful stakeholder engagement was required during the planning stages, and issues to be addressed included proximity to neighbouring dwellings, surface water drainage proposals and confirmation of lighting proposals. The planning process was not straight forward but we worked closely with the planning consultant to ensure all issues were addressed, including dealing with conditions discharge in a timely fashion.
Dome used our market knowledge to work with the College procurement team and establish a suitable tender list for the construction services required. This resulted in a competitive tendering situation and ultimately a successful award.
