Music & Sports Building – New College Durham

With a need for additional teaching space on campus, the College has looked at ways to make better use of existing building footprints. As well as a refurbishment and remodel of the building to make a more efficient use of the existing spaces, this project involves a vertical extension of the current Music & Sports building to add 8 new classrooms without expanding the building sideways.
The project will be undertaken in close proximity to existing teaching space and therefore careful and well-planned strategies are required to plan, deliver and manage the project with minimal disruption to day to day operations for the College.

Dome is providing bespoke project management, cost management and employer’s agent services to the College. These services ensure the College’s journey from inception to completion is managed professionally, delivered in line with the required governance and embraces a collaborative and forward-thinking approach.
We have supported the College to develop an appropriate budget for the project, together with authoring a bespoke tendering and procurement report to consider options for contractor procurement in the current market.
We have also engaged with College users and estates staff to ensure site access constraints are clearly documented and established, and then communicated to contractors through the tender period. This is of crucial importance and will help to minimise disruption to College staff and students during the construction period.
