Berwick Schools Reorganisation – Mott Macdonald

Dome is providing expert Cost Management services, as part of the Mott MacDonald technical advisor team, delivering a programme of schools’ improvements in Berwick-upon-Tweed for Northumberland County Council.

project

overview

Following a public consultation, Northumberland County Council’s cabinet approved proposals to change their education delivery in Berwick from a three-tier system to a two-tier system. The Council has pledged to invest over £50 million in capital development funds to improve facilities and facilitate the change.

As part of the programme five current First Schools require a mix of refurbishment and extension to prepare them for conversion into Primary Schools – catering for two extra year groups. The proposals include creation of additional classrooms, classroom extensions, new entrance areas, additional teaching blocks and improved family hub facilities.

Following the conversions of the feeder schools, Berwick Academy is planned to be rebuilt on its existing site with a new build Secondary School. The school will be designed to cater for a wider age range of pupils and will cater for 1,100 students while also providing specialist SEMH facilities.
